How to buy Ghibli Museum tickets from overseas

The short version: tickets go on sale via Lawson Ticket on the 10th of every month at 10:00 JST, for the following month's dates. Summer months (July/August entry) also run an advance lottery — check the museum's official news page before the 10th if you're targeting a summer date.

Before the 10th

  • Create a free Lawson Web Member account and verify your phone number — you cannot buy without one, and you cannot do this at the counter on the day.
  • Tickets are name-registered: buy under the account of the person who will actually enter on the day.
  • Decide your date and time slot in advance — at 10:00 JST sharp, popular weekend/holiday slots for the month can be gone within the hour.

At 10:00 JST on the 10th

  • Log in a few minutes early with your payment method ready.
  • Choose electronic ticket (smartphone) or Lawson store pickup at checkout — electronic is simpler for overseas visitors.

If you miss it

  • Sold out doesn't always mean gone. Tickets bought with convenience-store payment expire if unpaid, and those seats can resurface later in the month — there's no official published schedule for this, so treat any reappearing inventory as a bonus, not a plan.
  • Weekday slots later in the month tend to survive longest.
